Kanye West popularly known as Ye was born June 8, 1977, in Atlanta, Georgia. Is an American rapper, songwriter, record producer, and fashion designer. He is considered one of the most influential and controversial artists in contemporary music and has helped to reshape the course of hip-hop several times in his career.
Childhood and early career
Donda West, an English professor, raised Ye in Chicago, Illinois, where he was born, and he had an early fascination with the arts. He also quit school to devote himself to music, and later relocated to New York, NY. He was initially known for his “soul-sample” production style, such as on Jay-Z’s The Blueprint (2001) for Roc-A-Fella Records.
In 2002, he had a near fatal car accident and filmed his breakthrough song, “Through the Wire” with his jaw wired shut. This trend culminated in his first critically acclaimed album The College Dropout (2004), which defied the then-traditional gangsta rap style.
